Wondering what to wear to the gun range? At Weapon Works LLC in Burlington, NC, we have a simple dress code designed with one purpose in mind: keeping you safe and comfortable while you shoot. Hot brass from a fired cartridge can reach extremely high temperatures, and the wrong clothing can lead to burns, tripping hazards, or worse. The good news is our dress code is easy to follow, and most everyday outfits work just fine.

Closed-toe shoes are required at all times on the range. Sneakers, athletic shoes, boots, and other fully-enclosed footwear are all perfectly acceptable. Sandals, flip flops, slides, open-toe shoes, and high heels are not permitted because they leave your feet exposed to hot brass and increase the risk of slipping.

Shirts must have a high neckline. Crew necks, polos, button-downs, and similar high-cut shirts are ideal. Low-cut shirts, deep V-necks, scoop necks, tank tops, halter tops, and any shirt that exposes the chest are not allowed because hot brass can drop down inside your shirt and cause serious burns. Long sleeves are not required but are often more comfortable, especially during winter months.

Hats with a brim, like baseball caps, are highly recommended. A brimmed hat helps deflect any hot brass that bounces off the lane divider before it can reach your face or land in your collar. We sell hats and other range apparel on-site if you forget yours.

A few additional notes on what to wear: avoid loose, baggy clothing that could interfere with handling a firearm safely; long hair should be pulled back to keep it clear of moving parts and ejecting brass; and if you wear glasses, make sure they're impact-rated or be prepared to use our loaner safety glasses over them. We provide loaner eye and ear protection if you don't have your own, and both are required at all times on the range.

Quick summary: closed-toe shoes, high-neck shirts, brimmed hats recommended, and avoid anything loose or revealing. If you're unsure whether your outfit meets our dress code, give us a call before you head over at 800-556-9498 — it's easier to switch shirts at home than to be turned away at the door.
