Curious how old you have to be to shoot at a gun range in North Carolina? At Weapon Works LLC in Burlington, NC, we welcome shooters of all ages — from young first-timers to lifelong enthusiasts — as long as our age and supervision requirements are met. Teaching the next generation to shoot safely is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do, and we want every family visit to be safe, fun, and memorable.
Our age requirements are designed to comply with federal and North Carolina law while keeping every shooter on the line safe. Adults age 18 and older may shoot independently with valid government-issued photo ID. Minors under 18 are welcome at the range but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times while inside the facility. The accompanying adult must remain on the same lane as the minor, must directly supervise all firearm handling, and is fully responsible for the minor's safety and conduct while on the premises.
There is no strict minimum age to shoot at our range — we'll work with families to determine whether a young shooter is ready based on size, maturity, and ability to safely handle a firearm under supervision. Our experienced Range Safety Officers are happy to help first-time young shooters get started with appropriate firearms, ear and eye protection, and safety instruction.
A few things parents should know before bringing kids to the range: a parent or legal guardian (not an older sibling, aunt, uncle, or family friend) must be the one supervising the minor; only one minor per adult is permitted on a lane at a time for safety reasons; minors will be required to follow all the same range rules as adult shooters, including dress code and facility rules; and the parent or guardian will need to sign our liability waiver on the minor's behalf.
If you're bringing a young shooter to the range for the first time and have questions, please call us ahead of time at 800-556-9498. We're happy to recommend the right firearms, talk through what to expect, and make sure the experience is a positive one.
